It takes about six weeks for oil price changes to work their way through the distribution system to the gas pump. Oil prices are a little more volatile than gas prices. That means oil prices might rise higher, and fall further, than gas prices. But you can still use oil prices to predict tomorrow's gas prices today. The oil price is well and truly in the doldrums. Since 2014, the price of oil has been on a downward trajectory which has taken the industry into territory not seen for decades.
